What Happens In A Divorce?

In this state, before a divorce proceeding can proceed, the two parties must go through at least one mediation session which must be paid for by both parties. This is law in Utah, and it is required in the hopes that the parties will be able to work out their differences, making the divorce unnecessary.

The court may require one spouse to pay the other spouse money so they can maintain a lifestyle that was close to what they experienced during the marriage. Many factors go into determining alimony payments, such as:

Alimony can be adjusted based on income changes of either party or if the spouse who receives alimony remarries.
Child Custody

- Physical custody – which parent will the child reside with.
